About
There are five communal galleries in Berlin-Mitte belonging to the Department for Arts, Culture and History: Galerie Wedding – Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Kunst Raum Mitte, Klosterruine Berlin, Galerie Nord and Bärenzwinger.
Regardless of their individual profiles and historical traditions, these communal galleries and urban cultural venues are important points of reference for artists. It is often here that they first have the opportunity to present their work to a general, broad public and begin a professional career.
The department’s communal facilities are central locations for open and unbiased opinion-forming. Artists, art audiences and local residents can meet and exchange ideas here; they learn to understand each other and open up to new ideas. The communal exhibition venues are part of the cultural and educational infrastructure that is a necessary requirement and foundation for the vibrant and equitable development of an international metropolis such as Berlin.
