Galerie Nord is a unique model project in Moabit. The cultural institution has been a part of the department for years. Its focus is on the presentation and mediation of contemporary art that is innovative, critical and socially relevant. Galerie Nord presents thematic and group exhibitions on current social and cultural processes in juxtaposition with contemporary art. The gallery also organises major local events such as Ortstermin Moabit.
Galerie Nord
Every year, six to seven exhibition projects are realised together with partner institutions, curators or groups of artists and are accompanied by guided tours, films, discussions and artist talks. In addition, the gallery coordinates a variety of cultural projects, scientific events and artistic mediation programmes that address broad sections of the Moabit population and those beyond the district’s borders.
An integral part of the programme are cultural education projects that are in partnership with schools and extracurricular institutions in Moabit.
The exhibition projects of the municipal Galerie Nord are realised as a cooperative management model between the Kunstverein Tiergarten and the Department of Art, Culture and History in the Mitte district office. The gallery is part of the Arbeitskreis Kommunale Galerien Berlin (KGB).
