What if exhibition venues such as galleries and museums were to utilise their unique potential and their social interdependencies between waste and climate protection for greater social justice and well-being in a comprehensive sense?
According to Christopher J. Garthe, museums as central social actors would then be multipliers for sustainability in local and global dimensions. Sustainability must become the central point of reference in design and exhibition practice – programmatically and practically, ecologically and socially. What does this mean conceptually and pragmatically, where are the limits? What concrete instruments can be used, from exhibition design and facility management to art education and citizen science?

Talk with Bernard Vienat and Oliver Schübbe
Oliver Schübbe is an artist and designer and part of the OS2 Designgroup, a small manufactory that has been involved in the economically and ecologically sustainable production of handmade small-series furniture, interior design and installations for more than 20 years. The use of old furniture and used items or even production leftovers is a key component in the design process.
Bernard Vienat is an art historian, curator, and entrepreneur merging art with environmental science and futurology. Educated in art history, economics, and philosophy, his work spans curating innovative exhibitions to founding art-werk, an NGO linking art to socio-environmental issues. His projects, like the (re)connecting.earth Biennale and educational initiatives, aim to foster dialogue, education, and sustainability through art, emphasizing its role in societal and environmental change.
