Opening ceremony of Heidhues’ work by Benjamin Fritz, District Councellor for Sports and School and Claudia Rother, Director of 49th Primary School. Following that there will be a tour and a talk with artists Stef Heidhues and Katrin Glanz, head of the jury, moderated by Elke Falat.

Kunst am Bau in Wedding

On a guided tour (4,5 km) through Wedding you’ll be able to discover art works in the urban space and get a glimpse into their developement and background. The tour starts with “kommen und gehen | verweilen” by artist Susanne Bosch, continuing across Leopoldplatz to Schiller-Bibliothek and to the primary school at Nordhafen. Finally there will be two art works in the free areas of Bundesnachrichtendienst.

A talk with Bernd Trasberger, artist and member of Die Neuen Auftraggeber, moderated by cultural scholar Elke Falat about the ways users can be better integrated into the competition procedures as well as the production of Kunst am Bau and this way will be able to become mediators of the art themselves.

Historical and current Kunst am Bau in Berlin-Mitte

The tour leads us to artworks shaping the city and are still often overlooked. Art doesn’t just decorate buildings but helps us understand how the city was planned, seen and built. The art historian Edouard Comepere takes us on a tour with a special focus on architecture-related art in the GDR, from Marx-Engels-Forum to Petriplatz and from 1956 to the present.
