Funding in the field of performing arts aimed at a young audience (KiA-program)
Call for projects for children’s, youth and puppet theatre in Berlin Mitte
Aims of the funding are, among others:
a) The development and maintenance of theatre programs in urban spaces, in which there has been little or no provision nearby. In the Mitte district, these are the areas Gesundbrunnen (0130) and Moabit (0120). The areas can be viewed on this map of “lebensweltlich orientierte Räume”.
b) Maintenance and strengthening of already existing spaces of independent children‘s, youth, and puppet theatre performances.
c) Strengthening of the cultural participation of children’s, youth and puppet theatre in the performing arts.
d) Strengthening of the basis of work and life of artists of the performing arts
Object of the funding
The performance awards are granted upon application for theater offerings that are organized and performed by individual artists or mobile independent groups in the form of individual events or series of events for children and young people in underserved urban areas in Mitte.
In order to realize the above-mentioned aims, the Department of Art, Culture and History in the BA Mitte will award various grants in 2026:
1. performance premiums for individual events and series in previously underserved urban spaces in Mitte (cf. objective a)
2. project funding for venues in the field of performing arts for young audiences in Mitte (venue funding)
3. project funding in underserved urban areas in Mitte (Moabit and Gesundbrunnen)

Applications for projects starting in April 2026 at the earliest must be submitted by 9 February 2026 via this online form.
