KiA-Program – Performance Grants
The Department of Art, Culture and History of the Berlin-Mitte District Office awards annual performance grants through the KiA Programme, funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion. The programme supports children’s, youth and puppet theatres, as well as performing arts practitioners creating work for young audiences.
Purpose of Funding
Performance grants are awarded upon application for theatre productions organised and presented by individual artists or independent touring groups as one-off performances or series of performances for children and young people in underserved urban areas of Berlin-Mitte.
Funding aims to improve access to theatre in parts of the district where there are currently few or no theatre offerings within easy reach of local residents.
The following areas of Berlin-Mitte are considered underserved:
- Gesundbrunnen
- Moabit
- Wedding
Only performances taking place in these planning areas are eligible for funding.
Performance Grant Amounts
- €480 for a performance organised and presented by one individual.
- The grant increases by €330 per performance for each additional person involved, particularly those working in an artistic capacity.
- The maximum grant per individual performance is €1,800. If more than five people are involved, the individual grant amounts are reduced proportionally.
- As a guideline, each performance should last at least 45 minutes.
A maximum total of €6,800 may be requested.
Admission Fees
A minimum admission fee of €5.00 per audience member is recommended. Reduced admission fees (e.g. for Berlinpass holders) must be made available. In exceptional cases, such as reaching new audiences or establishing new performance locations, events may be offered free of charge.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are individual artists and artist groups without a permanent performance venue.
Funding Period
Performances must take place and be financially accounted for between early April and the end of November 2027.
Further details can be found in the call for applications.
Funding is subject to the availability of budgetary resources.
